A NEW SEAson HAS BEGUN AT TEATRO SEA

(New York, NY) – The award-winning theater company for young and adult audiences, Teatro SEA / Society of the Educational Arts, Inc., announces its new theatrical 2016-2017 SEAson filled with bilingual musical performances for all ages. Teatro SEA will also premiere a new theatrical concept never seen before in New York City, Micro Teatro or Micro Theater.

Teatro SEA will begin its SEAson on October 14, 2016 with its award-winning bilingual musical revue, La Gloria (The Glory): A Latin Cabaret, which will run until December 18, 2016. La Gloria opened last year in 2015, and because of its high demand and love from the audience, Artistic Director, Dr. Manuel Morán, has decided to bring back the performance for this SEAson. The play about the encounter of Celia Cruz, Daniel Santos, Myrta Silva and the musical Cuban band, La Sonora Matancera, in heaven will also be part of the 2nd edition of Teatro Fest NYC 2016, produced by the Alliance of Teatros Latinos NY, from September 15 – November 15, 2016.

Teatro SEA’s children’s programming for general audiences this semester include El Encuentro de Juan Bobo y Pedro Animal/The Encounter on November 12th and 19th. This comical and interactive show brings together two folk characters from Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. Children participate in this circus-style play, and in turn, see how these two charming characters find friendship, self-esteem and confidence.

SEA will also present two of its one-woman bilingual puppet shows. The Colors of Frida/Los Colores de Frida will take place on December 17, 2016. In this colorful one-woman show, Frida tells the stories behind her most famous paintings with the use of puppets and songs. This is a wonderful opportunity for audiences to learn about Mexican culture and its traditions. Puerto Rico is also on the plate this season, with Teatro SEA’s one-woman puppet show, The Pura Belpré Project, a re-enactment of Pura Belpré’s bilingual story hour in the NYC Public Libraries (the first Puerto Rican Librarian in NYC). The whole family will enjoy her stories and tales of Pérez and Martina, Juan Bobo and much more. Let’s get together in her world filled with puppets, music and storytelling on October 22.

Teatro SEA will be inaugurating Micro Theater/Micro Teatro into its 2016-2017 SEAson, a well-known theatrical concept/format in Latin America, the Caribbean and Europe. Micro Theater is a short-format theater/micro-play that lasts approximately 15 minutes with a maximum of 15 audience members. The piece is presented in a small, unconventional space while other small format plays are presented at the same time. Instead of attending the theater for one show, the public has the opportunity to enjoy up to 4 or 5 short pieces in one night. Dates for Micro Theater this semester include the first Monday of every month, starting in November (November 7 and December 5).

TEATRO SEA will also continue to present its bilingual and educational repertory of performances in schools, parks and libraries as well as its high-quality residences in the areas of theater, dance, music, puppetry and the visual arts.
