At Teatro SEA, we are deeply troubled by the recent allegations reported regarding César Chávez, a historical figure whose legacy has long been associated with the fight for workers’ rights and social justice.
The reports, which include serious accusations of abuse involving women and minors, have led organizations such as the United Farm Workers to cancel commemorative events while they seek to understand the full scope of these claims and support those affected.
As an organization committed to the well-being of children, families, and our communities, we take these matters with the utmost seriousness. Our work is rooted in respect, dignity, and the protection of young people—values that guide every aspect of what we do.
In light of this information, and until there is greater clarity, we have made the decision to immediately cancel upcoming performances César Chávez and the Migrants and are evaluating the future of this work within our repertoire.
We recognize the complexity of history and the importance of honoring movements that have advanced justice. At the same time, we must hold space for truth, accountability, and the voices of those who may have been harmed.
We stand in solidarity with survivors and reaffirm our commitment to creating work that uplifts, protects, and reflects the highest values of our community.
