Teatro SEA invites audiences to enjoy live musical selections, meet the creators, and celebrate the next generation of Latiné musical theatre on November 22.
NEW YORK, NY — November 2, 2026 — Teatro SEA and EL MUSICAL are proud to present EL MUSICAL: A FIRST LOOK — Showcase & Reception, a special afternoon celebrating four original Latiné musicals selected for the inaugural EL MUSICAL Seed Grant Program. The event will take place on Sunday, November 22, 2026, at 4:00 PM at Teatro SEA, located at 107 Suffolk Street on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. The showcase is also presented as part of BORIMIX: Puerto Rico Fest 2026, Teatro SEA’s annual festival celebrating Puerto Rican arts and culture. Admission is free, and donations are welcome.
The showcase will offer audiences an exciting first glimpse into these developing works through live musical selections performed by talented artists, including performers with Broadway and Off-Broadway experience. Guests will also have an opportunity to meet the creative teams and celebrate the future of Latiné musical theatre.
Selected from more than 50 submissions to EL MUSICAL’s inaugural national call, the four musicals represent a vibrant range of stories, musical styles, and creative voices:
- ON THE LINE — Joseph Rosario and Gabriel Diego Hernandez. An actor caught between identity and ambition must choose authenticity over fear. The showcase will feature selections including “Within These Walls” and “In Between,” performed by Ángel Lozada and Jeannille Ettinoffe.
- OUR OWN ODYSSEY: AN EPIC REMIXED — Joe Montoya and Chris Rivera. A Bronx teenager embarks on a modern-day odyssey where every stranger could be a savior or a monster. Musical selections will include “Like the Movies” and “Chances,” with participation by creators Joe Montoya and Chris Rivera.
- WAIT FOR HER — Jenna Cox-Hadley. A driven young woman must confront her past to reclaim her future. Audiences will hear selections including “This Is the Reason” and “In and Out of Sleep and Dreams.”
- SILUETAS, A NEW MUSICAL — Erlina Ortiz and Robi Hager. Two immigrant women from different worlds discover a shared home through love and forgiveness. The creative team will share a preview of this moving new work.
Each musical received a $2,500 EL MUSICAL Seed Grant, along with developmental support that includes professional mentorship, rehearsal space, industry connections, and opportunities to advance the work toward future productions.
“EL MUSICAL was born from a simple belief: our stories deserve to be heard, developed, and brought to the stage,” said Dr. Manuel A. Morán, Founder and Artistic Director of EL MUSICAL and Teatro SEA. “After receiving so many remarkable submissions, we are thrilled to finally share a taste of these four musicals with our community. This is not about presenting finished productions; it is about celebrating the creative process, discovering new voices, and opening doors for the next generation of Latiné musical theatre artists. We invite everyone to join us, meet these extraordinary creators, and be part of their journey.”
The afternoon will conclude with a reception, offering audiences, artists, producers, and supporters an opportunity to connect and celebrate these promising new works.
