SEA’s CURRENT PROGRAMS

  • Teatro SEA – Teatro SEA is the nation’s only Latino Children’s Theater, uniquely offering a year-round repertory of bilingual (Spanish and English) shows for children and youth, rooted in Latin American and Spanish folklore. For over 25 years, it has stood as the only permanent venue dedicated to showcasing Latino arts and culture for family audiences.
  • Annual NYC Tour of Children’s Theater in Spanish: Teatro SEA’s Annual NYC Tour is the only initiative of its kind, bringing professional, high-quality Spanish-language children’s theater directly to community centers, cultural venues, schools, parks and libraries, throughout NYC. For tens of thousands of underserved Latino children and families each year, this tour often provides their first experience with live theater and a rare opportunity to engage with professional Latino theater artists.
  • Teatro SEA’s Micro Theatre: Teatro SEA’s Micro Theatre is New York’s only program dedicated to presenting this unique, intimate format, offering emerging and newly arrived directors, writers, and performers a platform to showcase their work in small, alternative spaces. Featuring multiple short shows running simultaneously, audiences can rotate and experience up to five distinct performances in one night, creating an engaging and dynamic theater experience unlike any other in the city.
  • Teatro SEA’s Punto SEA: Teatro SEA’s Punto SEA is an exciting evening program transforming Teatro SEA’s lobby into an intimate cabaret-style venue, dedicated to showcasing the vibrant talents of Latinx artists. Designed for adult audiences, Punto SEA offers a dynamic lineup of live music, dance, comedy, and theater, providing diverse entertainment while creating vital opportunities for Latinx performers. 
  • Special Guest Artist/Company Series: Teatro SEA’s Special Guest Artist/Company Series (Sept.–June) showcases the most dynamic and captivating performers from the Latin American diaspora, celebrating the richness and diversity of Latino heritage. This series brings electrifying, culturally resonant performances that highlight the vibrancy and artistic excellence of Latino artists from around the world.
  • Teatro SEA’s Little Puppet Museum/El Pequeño Museo del Títere: Teatro SEA’s Little Puppet Museum celebrates the universal power of puppetry as a vital tool for cultural enrichment, transcending age, culture, ethnicity, language, and education. Featuring a diverse collection of hundreds of puppets from around the world, the museum showcases these unique art forms, offering audiences an immersive experience into global traditions and storytelling.
  • Teatro SEA’s Technical Training Program: Teatro SEA’s Technical Training Program (TTP) is a pioneering initiative dedicated to empowering Latino and people of color by providing comprehensive training in technical theater. Through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on experience, TTP equips participants with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in all aspects of technical theater production.
  • Teatro SEA’s Theater Books Series: Teatro SEA’s Theater Books Series is designed to introduce young students to the transformative power of theater from an early age. Each bilingual book, featuring scripts from SEA’s repertory of 25 shows, includes English and Spanish text, music scores of featured songs, and a comprehensive study guide for teachers.

SEA’s Arts for the Community Program (ACP)

SEA’s Arts for the Community Program (ACP) is a vital initiative dedicated to enriching and empowering communities through the arts. By developing and producing diverse performances, exhibitions, recitals, conferences, concerts, festivals, holiday celebrations, and workshops, ACP provides accessible cultural experiences for schools and neighborhoods, fostering artistic appreciation and engagement.

  • Integrated Arts Program: SEA’s Integrated Arts Program is NYC’s only bilingual Arts-in-Education initiative offering in-school artist-in-residency programs specifically for Latino bilingual/ESL students. This program empowers students ages 7 to 18 through artistic expression, guided by bilingual teaching artists. The comprehensive curriculum includes training in voice, movement, improvisation, playwriting, visual arts, multimedia, puppetry, and stagecraft—fostering creativity and cultural pride directly within school communities.
  • Dropout Prevention Program: Teatro SEA’s Dropout Prevention Program, inspired by our award-winning show Los Desertores (“The Dropouts Crew”), is one of NYC’s most impactful initiatives for at-risk junior and high school students. By bringing this powerful production to schools, community centers, and libraries, the program sparks critical conversations about the struggles faced by students at risk of dropping out, offering support, awareness, and strategies to help them stay engaged in their education.
  • BORIMIX Puerto Rico: BORIMIX Puerto Rico is New York City’s premier month-long festival celebrating and advancing Puerto Rican and Latino contributions to the arts, culture, and humanities. Spanning public programs, scholarly research, museum exhibitions, and educational initiatives, BORIMIX showcases the richness of Puerto Rican heritage while fostering cross-cultural exchange by incorporating featured guest countries. 
  • Three Kings Day Celebration: For over 20 years, Teatro SEA’s Three Kings Day celebration has made a lasting impact by bringing thousands of Latino children and families together to honor one of the most significant Latin American holidays. This longstanding tradition offers free gifts, festive cultural music, and interactive activities that strengthen cultural identity and preserve a cherished cultural holiday.
  • World Day of Puppetry: Teatro SEA proudly participates in the global celebration of World Day of Puppetry on March 21st, honoring the rich and diverse art of puppetry alongside artists and organizations worldwide. Since 2012, Teatro SEA has been a leading host and co-presenter in New York City, curating dynamic events that showcase the cultural significance and creative power of puppetry as part of this international tradition.
  • El Avión/The Airplane: Teatro SEA’s El Avión/The Airplane is a groundbreaking bilingual musical project and web series, uniquely designed to engage young audiences worldwide. Available through major music streaming platforms and SEA’s exclusive YouTube channel, SEA Kids Network, this innovative program offers a one-of-a-kind online experience that blends music, culture, and storytelling, expanding Teatro SEA’s mission to inspire and educate across digital spaces.

Outdoor Theatre Series at “La Plaza”

Outdoor Theatre Series at “La Plaza”: Free outdoor, open-air bilingual theater series every summer for NYC families with unique vendors and featuring cultural artisan vendors and food. The two main festivals are:  Arte Pa’ Mi Gente and NYC’s International Puppet Fringe Festival

  • Arte Pa’ Mi Gente / Arts for All Festival: A vibrant, free outdoor celebration that brings special performances from the Latino diaspora to the community. Featuring open-air theater, dance, music, puppetry, art workshops, artisanal vendors, food, and film presentations, the festival offers an inclusive and enriching cultural experience for all.
  • International Puppet Fringe Festival: Teatro SEA proudly presents NYC’s only International Puppet Fringe Festival, a cultural gem that brings the global art of puppetry to the heart of the city each summer. This vibrant, week-long festival features over 40 performances, engaging exhibitions, film screenings, symposiums, and free outdoor shows, making it a must-see celebration of puppetry arts in New York.

SEA Puerto Rico

  • SEA Puerto Rico: SEA Puerto Rico stands as a unique hub for artistic creation and cultural enrichment, featuring an office, workshop, and professional sound studio in San Juan. This is where all puppets, sets, and original music for SEA’s musical theater repertory are designed and produced. Since 1985, SEA Puerto Rico has offered distinctive programs, including the Títeres del Campo Festival, which brings touring performances to rural communities with limited access to the arts. The organization also presents theater productions in major venues across the island and conducts art workshops in schools, libraries, and parks, ensuring that diverse communities throughout Puerto Rico have access to transformative cultural experiences.
