NEW YORK, NY — Teatro SEA is proud to share that its Founder, CEO, and Artistic Director, Dr. Manuel A. Morán, has been featured in the national publication American Theatre as part of the article “Entre aquí y allá: Spotlight on Puerto Rican Artists.”
Published in anticipation of the 2026 Theatre Communications Group (TCG) National Conference in Puerto Rico, the article highlights six influential Puerto Rican theatre artists whose work is shaping the cultural landscape both on the island and throughout the diaspora.
The profile recognizes Dr. Morán’s four decades of artistic leadership and his commitment to creating bilingual, culturally relevant theatre for children, families, and communities. The article highlights the founding of Teatro SEA in 1985 and its evolution into one of the leading Latino theatre and arts education organizations in the United States.
American Theatre also acknowledges several of Morán’s signature initiatives, including the International Puppet Fringe Festival NYC, BORIMIX Puerto Rico Fest, and El Musical, a new initiative dedicated to the development and production of original Latino musical theatre.
Reflecting on his artistic journey, Morán shares how his work continues to be inspired by his Puerto Rican heritage, his passion for storytelling, and his role as a father. Throughout his career, he has remained committed to creating theatre that celebrates culture, fosters imagination, and ensures that Latino communities see themselves reflected on stage.
“This recognition is truly an honor,” said Dr. Morán. “I am proud to stand alongside such extraordinary Puerto Rican artists. More importantly, I share this acknowledgment with the many collaborators, educators, artists, staff members, board members, students, audiences, and supporters who have been part of Teatro SEA’s journey over the last forty years. Their belief in the power of theatre and culture has made this work possible.”
As Teatro SEA prepares to celebrate its 40th Anniversary Season and the reopening of its historic main stage at The Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural and Educational Center, this national recognition serves as a reminder of the organization’s enduring mission: to create, preserve, and share stories that inspire future generations.
